Samsung s22 Ultra Review

 1. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is easily the most powerful and versatile Android phone this side of a foldable. This is the best display we've tested in a phone, and Samsung's cameras are much improved, especially in low light. Plus, the powerful zoom continues to be hard to beat.

Is the Galaxy S22 Ultra worth $300 more than the Google Pixel 6 Pro? That's not an easy call. The S22's Ultra delivers a brighter screen, longer battery life and a faster chip, but while the S Pen is faster and smoother than before, not everyone appreciates that perk. And the Pixel 6 Pro's camera quality is better in some instances.

Then there's the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is faster than the S22 Ultra, lasts longer on a charge and delivers better photo quality (with the exception of low light shots). Still, I prefer the sleeker design of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and more powerful zoom.

Overall, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the best premium Android phone, and it's very close to being the best phone period.

2. Looking back, it was quite evident that the Galaxy S21 Ultra (Review) was going to be the first phone outside of the Galaxy Note series to feature a S Pen. The Galaxy S22 Ultra completes the inevitable fusion of Samsung's Galaxy Note and Galaxy S series, making it the apex of the company's smartphone lineup. It combines the most impressive camera features of the Galaxy S series with the Note series' productivity attraction.

With its potent hardware and refined software, the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers a flagship experience. Almost anything may be handled by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. In terms of camera performance, Samsung continues to outperform the majority of the competitors. If you use your device frequently, you could notice that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC warms up when under stress. Many fans will also be discouraged by the hefty cost. Since there is no other phone on the market with the same feature set as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, it will likely appeal to a larger audience than its predecessor did. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is undoubtedly one of the best Android smartphones available right now, if you don't mind its exorbitant price.

3. Samsung has no doubt put together a powerful pocket machine in the Galaxy S22 Ultra. This phone ticks off most of the boxes when it comes to specs, such as the latest processor, the highest megapixel camera, and of course the built-in S Pen and all its functionality.

Further, the phone packs just about the best software suite this side of the Googleplex and the best support guarantee of any Android phone. The only real bummers are the average battery life and the reduced RAM on the base model.

4. So should you buy the Galaxy S22 Ultra? That's a bit of a tough one. The S22 Ultra does not feel like an S series phone, it feels like a Note. So for Note users and those who appreciate the S Pen, well, it's the newest and pretty much only option in town. And a super powerful one at that!

Still, loyal fans will notice the company stepping away from things it used to value just a couple of years ago, things like the microSD card slot for once. But our big concern has got to be the battery situation: we don't know why, but this giant battery is not holding up all too well so far. We also have a love-hate relationship with the camera that can both disappoint with the main shooter and its often bleak colors, but can just as well wow us with the incredible zoom cameras.

At the end of the day, though, this is the one Android phone that we are certain Samsung will update and polish. All else: the refined design, the stunning display, the S Pen, powerful processor, faster charging, these are all great things. So yes, the S22 Ultra gets our thumbs up, but a more cautious thumbs up this time around: it's obviously a very good phone, just with a few unexpected kinks that need to be ironed out.

5.  If the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra fits in your budget - and your pocket - we’d recommend buying it. It’s fantastic for photography and also great for watching films, playing games or just scrolling through social media - honestly, there’s little that it can’t do well.

If you don’t want to spend over £1,000 on a phone, then you probably want to avoid this phone - though it doesn’t carry the ‘Pro’ suffix, it really is a mobile designed for professionals who need a creativity powerhouse.

But if your smartphone is important for photography, videography, video editing or anything else like that, this is the phone to buy. In our testing period, we were always looking forward to the next photoshoot or image edit session, to see just what else we could do with it.
